Rocky Mountain Sherpa : Gear of the Week

Just when you thought the whole industry standard / wheel size debate couldn’t get any more convoluted, the industry goes and creates another wheel size. Yep, 27.5″ is out, 27.5″+ in. Well… not exactly. Turns out, in addition to your 26″ dirt jumper, 27.5″ all-mountain shredder, and 29″ XC race machine, there’s yet another classification of bike you need in your stable; the 27.5″+ overland adventure bike.

Rocky Mountain teased us with hints of the concept throughout last year, however, this past week marked the Sherpa’s official release as the first production full-suspension 27.5″+ adventure bike to hit the market. And, yes dammit, we want one.

So who’s this bike for? If your idea of a good time is to pack up all your gear and head off into the backcountry for days at a time, then this is the bike for you. Made for making it’s own way, the Sherpa’s 120mm travel up front, 90mm travel in the rear, and potential for 3.25″ wide tires assures that no trail, or more to the point, lack of a trail, will stand in your way.
